Entertaiment is the enjoyment of various forms of leisure. It can be any activity that is not essential for survival or for maintaining health and well-being, such as sports, games, music, theatre, dance, socializing, and solving crossword puzzles. It may also be a part of ceremonies, festivals or religious celebrations. Entertainment can be for a single person or for an audience of any size, from a personal choice of recorded or live material, to a full theatrical performance. It can be playful or serious, virtuous or corrupt, and may be socially beneficial, such as satire or propaganda. The word derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, and the Indo-European root is ten.
