Entertaiment is a term for entertainment in general. This can include movies, TV shows, live performances, games, etc. Throughout history, familiar forms of entertainment have demonstrated an amazing ability to cross media. This has enabled some of the same images and structures to persist across time, culture, and social contexts.

According to Bates and Ferri (2010), entertainment can be defined as an activity that is understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience, provides an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience, and occurs in a passive form. Some examples of entertainment are listening to music, reading novels, or watching a movie.
